THE NEED FOR TRAINING

THE NEED FOR TRAINING

The steel industry is in a depleted state of skills capacity. Formal training facilitation is necessary to ensure continuity of skills in the workplace. Further to this, the development of portable skills ensures growth and a fair capacity spread across the country.

Steel manufacturing is frequently undergoing changes to equipment, technology and production best practice. Training our staff to stay abreast of these changes maintains our business presence. The training output is cyclical so new entrants will enter the learning experience on an annual basis.

Who Do We Train?

It is our focus to offer training and employment entry to the unemployed youth. The mandate of raw material value-addition is based on creating opportunities at a localised level. The training, and subsequent employment at Veer Steel Mills, results in supporting immediate proximity communities.

We will consider recruitment for training against our legislative parameters to benefit the relevant candidates. It is our policy to offer as many opportunities to female candidates as possible.

Candidates will meet the minimum academic requirements set out by the seta. Once recruited, trainees are registered with the seta and training will begin on-site via our learning centre.

Theory will be conducted at the learning centre while isolated live equipment will be offered for practical training. Trainers, moderators and assessors will ensure the standard of training is correct while documentary trails are maintained each step of the way.

Themba Makhaye

Veer Steel Mills Training Programme Graduate 2014

“I particularly felt overjoyed when I was selected to travel to India for a practical training programme in Production Technology where we learnt of the advancement of the steel industry and operating automatic machines.

Although the trip was designed to upskill us in the steel trade, it did more than that, it taught us the importance of ubuntu and that it truly is a global language, one that is practiced, meticulously, at Veer Steel Mills.”

Olwethu Kali

Veer Steel Mills Training Programme Graduate 2014

“I arrived at this plant by chance when I was accompanying my brother for a job interview and management encouraged me to also apply for the job and skills training programme.

Today, I am part of the 2013 alumni of the course who traveled to India to learn the tricks of the trade where steel manufacuring technology was concerned. I must say it took a lot of courage to leave my comfort zone as a barista  at a local petrol , to launch a career in production technology”

Collin Ndaba

Veer Steel Mills Training Programme Graduate 2014

“Without Veer Steel Mills I would not know that there is as much efficiency in using oil for heating purposes in steel production just as there is in using coal, and I learnt  this in one  of the best places to create steel, India.

I will always be grateful to the company and higher management for believing in me and grooming me to become more that just a number in the company through extensive training. We’re more like a family, and family uplifts each other at all times.”
